The trap first. Colombia, Ecuador, and Venezuela all fly yellow, blue, and red horizontal bands, and that’s no accident: all three were once a single country, Gran Colombia, whose flag descended from a tricolor designed by the revolutionary Francisco de Miranda. When the union broke apart in 1831, each new nation kept the colors.

Telling them apart is the quiz’s whole difficulty spike. Colombia gives yellow a double-width band. Ecuador does the same but adds its coat of arms in the center.
